There are just two driving testers based in Tipperary despite the backlog in numbers waiting to sit their tests.
Some learner drivers in the Premier County have had to wait 19 weeks to site their test.
Despite having four centres just 74 driving tests were carried in Tipperary over a one week period earlier this month.
73 of these were in Clonmel with 1 in Tipp town – none were conducted at the Nenagh or Thurles test centres on the week ending August 18th according to figures from the Road Safety Authority.
Less that half those sitting the test during that week passed – 34 in Clonmel while the single applicant in Tipp Town was also successful.
31 learner drivers failed their test in Clonmel while 4 didn’t show up – another 4 tests could not be completed due to issues with the vehicle or documentation.
The figures obtained by Senator Victor Boyhan also show there are just 2 driving testers headquartered in Tipp – 1 in Clonmel and 1 in Tipp town while there are none based in Thurles or Nenagh.
According to the Road Safety Authority website the average waiting time to sit a test in the Premier County is 11.7 weeks.
However the longest waiting times have been up to 19 weeks.
