The investigation continues in to the death of an 89 year old woman in Nenagh over the weekend.
Joan Ray was found dead at her home in St Joseph’s Park on Sunday.
Gardaí believe she may have been attacked by someone who was known to her.
They are appealing for anyone who was in the area between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon and may have noticed anything suspicious to contact them.
Her friends and neighbours in Nenagh described her as a well-known, well-loved woman who loved fashion and music.
Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Ryan O’Meara says the community is struggling to come to terms with the news.
He told Tipp FM Joan was very well known in the local community.
“Anyone who spent any amount of time around Nenagh town or walking around the streets knew Joan at least to see her if not knew her personally. Really one of the absolute characters of the town. A very glamorous lady – was at so many events going on in the town especially anything involving music.
“It’s so shocking that after a long life that it would end in such a manner. It really is quite heartbreaking and shocking – a dark cloud hanging over Nenagh.”
