The future of Ireland’s newly qualified doctors is up for discussion over the next few days as the Irish Medical Organisation holds its Annual General Meeting.
The 3-day event kicks off in Galway this afternoon.

It’s taking place as efforts continue to secure a replacement doctor for a Thurles medical practice.
The GP is retiring but the HSE has failed to fine anyone interested in taking up the practice.
Incoming IMO President Dr Ann Hogan says they’ll be discussing concerns over falling GP numbers.
She says in the past Irish doctors went abroad but returned after a time – however now they appear to be leaving for good.
Dr Hogan says measures need to be put in place to entice young doctors to stay in Ireland.
