The Tipperary Camogie PRO says delegates from some counties were not voting for what the players wanted on last year’s ‘skorts motion’.
Tipperary brought the motion to the Camogie Congress last year looking to give players the option to wear shorts during games.
The motion was defeated however the topic is back in the news following the protest of Dublin and Kilkenny players last weekend who wore shorts in the warmup ahead of their Leinster semi-final.
Speaking on last night’s Extra-Time, Tipp Camogie PRO Geraldine Kinane says players should have the ability to choose what they want to wear:
“I know people will say there was a vote at congress and the status quo won but personally I feel delegates voting weren’t voting for what the players wanted, that’s clear from surveys that have been done.
“I’ve bene involved in camogie for 30-plus years and I have never seen anyone wear skorts to training or a challenge match, the only time they wear them is when they have to in an official competition and official championship games and for me that tells its own story.
“If players preferred skorts, if they found them more comfortable then why wouldn’t they wear them training, why wouldn’t they wear them the whole time.”
