Suggestions that a planned innovation park for West Tipperary was to move elsewhere have been played down.

On Tipp Today yesterday Councillor Denis Leahy said as far as he was aware the Sky Innovation Park planned for Tipp Town was not going ahead. He suggested it was being developed in Athlone instead, describing it as a major blow to west Tipp.

When details of the park were first revealed it was claimed it had the capacity to create up to 700 jobs and generate €48 million in wages in the area in the space of five years.

However Tipperary Labour TD Alan Kelly says the project is still in the pipeline for the Premier County.

He told Tipp FM that the innovation park is not a warehouse type investment like the one announced by Mr Price in Athlone but instead is an IDA type venture

A lot of behind the scenes work and meetings with the IDA have taken place.

The site on the N24 Limerick Road out of Tipp town is being finished off at the moment – once this is concluded the site goes into the IDA property portfolio.
