As work continues on providing accommodation in Clonmel for families fleeing the war in Ukraine an information session is set to take place this evening.

There have been a number of protest marches in the wake of confirmation that modular homes are to be erected on HSE owned land on the Heywood Road in the town.

In a bid to keep local people informed of the OPW plans the Department of Integration is hosing an information drop-in session in the Talbot Hotel later today.

Local Councillor Richie Molloy is encouraging people to take the opportunity to be properly informed.

“This engagement will be on the Rapid Build Programme for Ukrainians – the format of the meeting will be similar to others held around the country. Boards will be displayed showing the number of modular homes being built. Staff from the Department of Integration will be available to answer queries. There’s no particular set-piece and people can arrive at any time between 4 and 7 this evening to the Talbot Hotel.”

Richie Molloy says now is the opportunity to ask questions about the proposals – he himself admits to having reservations.

“It’s finally our chance to see exactly what is proposed at this site. I myself have a lot of reservations as to the suitability of the site, its proximity to the halting site and the rugby club. Have we the resources in this area to take on so many people coming in?

“But as I say the information session will be hosted by the Department of Integration this evening in the Talbot Hotel – it’s open to all members of the public. Members of the Department and staff from the Office of Public Works will be present at this meeting.”
