Huge interest in Suir canoe project

The new canoe slalom course on the Suir is already drawing extra visitors to Clonmel.

It’s being officially opened this lunchtime ahead of the Canoe Ireland club Championships which are being held locally over the weekend.

There are 300 competitors coming to the South Tipp town for the two day event.

But Valerie Connolly, Sports co-ordinator with Tipperary Sports Partnership, there will be many others in the long term with clubs visiting from all over Ireland for training.

Some members of the national squad have also been using the facility.
