The Health and Safety Authority has begun an investigation into a workplace accident in Nenagh during which a man was seriously injured.
It happened at the Arrabawn Co-op facility in the town last night.
In a statement the company says its first thoughts are with the injured staff member and his family adding they will be co-operating with the HSA’s investigation into the incident.
The alarm was raised at 7.40 yesterday evening when a staff member of Arrabawn Co-op was seriously injured at their main production facility in Nenagh.
He was initially treated by the company’s “on site” trained first aid representatives before paramedics arrived on the scene a short time later. The staff member was then taken by ambulance to McDonagh Park where the Irish Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 115 was waiting to airlift him to Cork University Hospital where he is being treated for serious burn injuries.
Local gardai and the Civil Defence were also involved in the operation.
In a statement to Tipp FM News Arrabawn Co-op has confirmed the incident stating their “thoughts first and foremost” were with their “injured staff member and his family.” A spokesperson says the company remains in constant contact with his family regarding his condition and offer them any support needed.
A spokesperson added that Arrabawn Co-Op is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the accident and will cooperate with HSA inspectors in their formal investigation which commences today.
