Gardiner loses at European Elites

Tipperary’s Dean Gardiner has lost his Super Heavyweight bout at the European Championships in Ukraine.

He took a standing count in the second round having been put to the canvas by his Ukrainian opponent and the referee stopped the fight a short time later.

However there has been success for Ireland in Kharkiv today.

Sean McComb is through to the lightweight quarter finals after beating top seed and reigning world champion Vitaly Dunaytsev (PR: Dun-eye-stev) of Russia.

The win also secures McComb’s place at this year’s World Championships.
