Gardaí in Tipperary made an average of 2 drink driving arrests each day over the Christmas period.
Gardaí conducted checkpoints at locations across the Premier county over the last few weeks leading to a significant number of motorists being caught over the limit.
Eight people were killed on the roads of Tipperary in 2017 – a reduction of 38% on the previous year while nationally road fatalities were at their lowest since records began in 1959.
However speaking on Tipp Today Inspector James White said it’s important that we don’t get complacent.
He says people need to be particularly conscious of getting behind the wheel if they’ve been out the night before.
