The Army Chaplin who was stabbed in Galway last week is thanking the people of Clonmel for their support.

A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court over the incident in which members of the defence forces fired warning shots and disarmed him before the Gardaí arrived to arrest him.

Fr Murphy is recovering in hospital after an operation for serious but not life-threatening injuries after being stabbed a number of times.

Clonmel priest Fr Michael Toomey says he is doing better since his surgery over the weekend.
