Nominations are open for the Fianna Fail general election candidate selection in Tipperary.
The candidates to run in the next Election from each of the main parties look set to be chosen within 2 months.
Nominations for the Fianna Fail general election candidate in the county have opened this week, and will remain open for 2 – 3 weeks.
The 1,300 delegates will then vote for their chosen nominee at the end of February.
In the last general election the party ran 3 candidates – Siobhán Ambrose, Jackie Cahill, and Michael Smith – with former ICMSA leader Cahill taking one of the 5 seats in the Tipp constituency. It remains to be seen how many candidates they will field next time out.
Meanwhile, Fine Gael’s selection convention is set to take place on the 4th of March, with 7 candidates in the running – 6 of which are from the south of the county.
The sole North Tipp based candidate is former TD Noel Coonan who – along with Tom Hayes – lost his seat last time out leaving Fine Gael with no Dáil representation in the county.
Sinn Fein will hold their selection convention at the end of February – Seamie Morris who was their candidate last time out has since left the party.
Labour have already declared that current TD Alan Kelly will run.
