The ‘Hot School Meals’ scheme has been expanded to include a number of additional schools in Tipperary.
It has grown from a pilot scheme of just 30 schools in 2019 to a national programme covering 2,200 primary schools.
The latest expansion brings another 168 schools on board including eight in the Premier County.
Tipperary Fine Gael Senator Garret Ahearn says the scheme is hugely important.
“There’s 345,000 primary school children right across the country that are able to receive hot school meals. This is a commitment that Ireland have made under the European Child Guarantee to give children access to a high range of key services including healthcare and nutrition.
“It’s a great scheme and its very beneficial for primary school children here in Tipperary – its so important that they have good healthcare and that they’re fed well.”
