After being earmarked earlier in the year, local groups are now eager to work with the community to develop plans for the new amenity which will promote the Holycross site as well as tourist attractions in the wider area.

Archaeological surveys from OPW staff are due to get underway early next year as part of the preliminary planning stage.

Project Manager Paul Vallely has been outlining some of the objectives of this Heritage Centre.

“The proposal is to have a heritage centre as a stand alone building which would be situated adjacent to Holycross Abbey.”

“In that would be various displays that would cover the history of the Abbey and also cover information on the Relics of the True Cross that are held within the Abbey and also the history of the surrounding area.”
