Tipperary County Council’s allocation of €9 million for national roads has been welcomed by local TD Mattie McGrath.
However the Independent Deputy has expressed disappointment at the small amount earmarked for the N24 Cahir to Waterford upgrade.
€2.5 million of the €9 million announced for Tipperary County Council by the Transport Minister is earmarked to progress upgrade plans for the N24 between Cahir and Limerick Junction.
Local TD Mattie McGrath says he has been given a commitment from Minister Darragh O’Brien that priority will be given to alleviate traffic issues in Tipperary Town.
Meanwhile funding for the N24 Cahir to Waterford upgrade is allocated to Kilkenny as the lead authority.
Deputy McGrath says the allocation of €80,000 is less than expected especially given that the project is across three different local authorities. He says the Department of Transport will need to review this matter urgently to ensure funding will be allocated to progress the project through to planning stages, once and for all.
