The cost of proposed works at FBD Semple Stadium is on the rise.
Munster GAA chief executive Kieran Leddy has been speaking about the home of Tipperary GAA in his annual report ahead of Friday’s Munster GAA Convention.
According to Leddy’s report, he says proposed works on Semple Stadium are now estimated to cost €8 million and that would mostly be maintenance related and won’t result in improvements apart from the laying of a new pitch along with new seating in the Kinane stand.
This is double the cost Leddy qouted in last year’s report where he stated that work on the Thurles ground would cost an estimated €4 million.
The Munster GAA chief executive says that large county grounds are going to present an ongoing challenge for the association and that the GAA needs to embrace the municipal facility model, as use from the GAA alone can’t maintain these facilities.
