Calls have been made for a solution to driving test waiting lists in Tipperary.

Councillors at yesterday’s meeting of Tipperary County Council in Rear Cross were called on to write to the Transport Minister Shane Ross on the issue.

Currently, 40,000 people are awaiting tests in Ireland – 9,000 of them are in Tipperary.

This is an increase of 26 percent on 2018.

Councillor Mark Fitzgerald feels this adversely affects young people entering the work force or attending third level education in particular.

He recommends that learner drivers who have completed their 12 lessons and have applied for a test should be able to drive unaccompanied.

Meanwhile, Councillor Andy Moloney feels there are other options including an increase of the number of testers.
