A new station is to be built on part of the Kickham Barracks site in the town.

However Deputy Michael Lowry says Gardaí can’t be expected to wait until the new station is constructed and has welcomed the sanctioning of interim works.

Meanwhile plans for the new Garda station in Clonmel are set to take a major step forward in the coming weeks.

Tipperary TD Michael Lowry facilitated the recent meeting between the Garda Representative Association and OPW Minister Kevin Moran.

He says plans for the new station on the Kickham Barracks site are progressing.
