Councillors in the Ballina area have expressed concerns over the speed at which jet-skis are going and the risk they pose to other water users on the Shannon and Lough Derg.

Phyll Bugler says there is a particular issue around the bridge in Ballina and the need for action to be action taken before there was an accident or fatality.

At the Nenagh Municipal District meeting members were advised of the intention to draft bye-laws to address issues relating to long-term parking of boats at jetties which are within the control of the Council.

During the discussion some members raised concerns about the speed of jet skis on Lough Derg.  The use of jet skis on the Shannon Navigation is a matter for Waterways Ireland and An Garda Síochána – not Tipperary County Council.
