The families of residents in the Dean Maxwell unit in Roscrea have welcomed a commitment that their loved ones will be allowed to stay in the nursing home.
Deputy Michael Lowry recently secured a commitment from the HSE that those currently residing at Dean Maxwell will not be asked to move and will live out their natural lives in the centre.
Spokesperson for the Dean Maxwell families Donnacha Delaney says this combined with plans to fill staff vacancies is very positive news.
However he told Tipp FM they still have concerns.
“People are breathing a huge sigh of relief because it has been a huge concern. But families continue to be worried that with the plan to change the Dean Maxwell into a respite and day care facility that others in the town needing long term care will lose out because if it goes ahead we will lose one of the four long-stay nursing homes in Roscrea and with it 20 long-stay and 2 palliative care beds which is 20% of the long-stay bed capacity in the town. All the other nursing homes are at capacity, they have waiting lists.”
