The local authority dog pound in Kilsheelan has closed its doors due to ongoing animal welfare concerns.

The council took the decision following a health and safety audit, and councillors were not informed of the decision prior to its closure.

The Environment section of the local authority is using kennelling facilities in Clerihan as an alternative.

The news emerged at this months meeting of the Clonmel Borough District.

Councillor Siobhan Ambrose, who had a motion down seeking to expand the services there, says it’s not fully clear whether it’ll be reopened.
