The Health Minister is to examine the possibility of ultrasounds being carried out by medical practice in Tipperary to ease overcrowding at South Tipp General.

Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath raised the issue with the Taoiseach during Leaders Questions in the  Dáil where he highlighted the situation at the Mary Street Medical Centre in Clonmel.

It carried out a number of ultrasounds earlier this year when it was awarded a short-term contract by the HSE.

Deputy McGrath says the centre deserves to be allowed to continue.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny says if the Mary Street Medical Centre has the capability of easing waiting lists at South Tipp General then it needs to be considered.
