Calls for examination of college tender process dismissed

The Taoiseach has dismissed calls to examine the loss of contracts for 11 local companies supplying the Garda Training College in Templemore.

The issue was raised by Deputy Jackie Cahill in Dail Eireann, after the suppliers in Tipperary lost their contracts to larger multinational companies under the National Procurement Process.

The decision was taken to open the supply of goods and services in the Garda college on a national scale, and overseas companies managed to snatch up the contracts with more competitive offers than local suppliers.

The Tipp TD highlighted the issue to Leo Varadkar as many businesses in the locality now face job losses and a serious impact to the local economy.

In his response, Mr Varadkar said he didn’t know about the contracts specifically but noted that the national procurement is a fair process:
