Local TD Seamus Healy made the recommendation in light of a recent report released by the Medical Council.

The document found that bullying and overworking were common place at the Clonmel hospital. The findings also indicated that protected training guidelines were not being adhered to, meaning more hands-on learning than the required lectures.

The hospital currently takes in 300 interns from UCC and a further 100 from UL.

Deputy Healy, a former hospital administrator, pointed out that more staff are needed at the hospital to allow for protected training times to be carried out.
