Cahir MMA fighter Will Fleury is making the jump up to the heavyweight division.
The Tipperary man made history last month becoming the first ever Irish champion in the OKTAGON MMA promotion after winning the light heavyweight title in Prague.
The 35-year-old will now make the move up from the 205-pound division to the 265-pound weight class to take on Lazar Todev of Bulgaria for the Heavyweight title in Stuttgart on March 8th.
Speaking to Tipp FM, Fleury says whilst he’s expecting a tough fight, he’s confident he can get the job done in Germany:
“Heavyweight to light-heavyweight is quite a big jump up, now it just means the guy could be upwards of 120kg but the guy Todev, the fella I’m going to fight, he’s not that, he’s not even that much bigger than me to be honest.
“He’s a pretty good fighter, he’s quite skilled with his hands so it’s definitely a tough fight but I’m in this stage now where I’ve had a good long winning streak and I want to make the absolute most of it and any opportunity that comes my way I’m going to take and put myself out there and go for it.
“I’d be pretty confident that I can get the job done here but it is a tough fight.”
