More people in Tipperary will be eligible for disability housing adaptation grants under plans approved by the government.
The first review of thresholds in a decade has resulted in an increase in the grant limits to €40,000 while the income threshold is also being upped.
Deputy Jackie Cahill says the grants – which can be used for things like installing access ramps, accessible bathroom facilities and stair lifts – are hugely important for older people and those with disabilities.
“These changes are going to really help people to do up their houses in order that older people can stay in their houses in comfort and that people with disabilities can also cope in their homes and have a comfortable existence there.
“Up to €75,000 household income can now qualify for a significant grant and just to give another example people on €43,000 of a household income will get 85% of the cost up to a maximum of €34,000.”
