A group of residents in Clonmel have failed in their bid to overturn a planning decision by Tipperary County Council.

The local authority granted permission St Peter & Pauls Primary School for an all-weather pitch on their existing playing field facing Shamrock Hill.

A number of local residents objected to this claiming it would deprive the area of a valuable amenity as well as possibly leaving the area open to anti-social behaviour.

They also questioned the ownership of the field saying it had never been owned by the school.

Following the granting of permission by the council 25 residents of Shamrock Hill lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanála – however the board has decided to allow the all-weather pitch to go ahead albeit with revised conditions.
