The hugely historic building which has ancestral links to Prince Charles and his late former wife Princess Diana has been sold to financier Timothy Maher and his wife Dr Phyllis Maher.
They plan to restore the seriously dilapidated structure to its former glory incorporating living quarters, a large gallery and studio space where they will also display their own art works including a number of Picassos and a Pollock.
DH Ryan Architects have been employed to carry out a feasibility study of the site and its associated buildings which span about two acres.
Timothy Maher – who originally hails from Boherlahan but has lived and worked abroad in Dubai and the US for many years – explains why they settled on Black Castle.
The Maher’s were first introduced to the castle by local TD Michael Lowry – he believes once the project is completed it provide a huge tourism boost for Thurles
And you can hear all about Black Castle, the new owners and their plan in a special report by Trudy Waters on Tipp Today this Wednesday.
