Suir Island development plans welcomed in Clonmel

Plans for Suir Island have been warmly welcomed by the public, with hopes that the amenity will attract business and tourism to Clonmel.

The ambitious plans for the town were discussed before the public in the Main Guard yesterday evening, with some concerns being raised in relation to traffic management, sewage and realisation of the plans.

The project would see the island transformed into a public amenity in the heart of the town, but it may take up to 10 years to see the plans come to life.

Plans for the island include an amphitheatre, an activity zone and a wildlife habitat – with a footbridge linking it to the Quays.

Local ecologist Mieke Muyllaert raised concerns over the existing sewage system at Suir Island.
