Storm water identified as main polluter in River Suir

Surface storm water has been identified as a key issue causing pollution in the River Suir in Thurles.

In a report published by the EPA, the town was cited as a “Large Urban Area where the collection and treatment of urban waste water did not meet European Union standards.”

Councillor Jim Ryan says he has continuously raised the issue of raw sewage being pumped in to the river.

He says these problems need to be addressed quickly.
