Nenagh campaigner for Alpha 1 drug sadly dies

A Nenagh woman who had called on the Government to fund a trial drug for Alpha One patients, has sadly died.

Marion Kelly from Puckane suffered from the rare genetic condition which attacks the lungs and liver.

Eleven years ago she was put on the trial drug Resprezza which she described as life changing.

A decision was made to discontinue the drug trial a number of weeks ago stating that there was little evidence that it had a menaingful benefit to patients.

Speaking to Tipp FM this morning, Tipperary Labour Deputy Alan Kelly, who knew Marion, said that since the drug has been discontinued, 2 patients who benefited from it have passed away.
