Tipperary progress to Munster Minor Hurling semi-final.

The Tipperary minor hurlers got the defence of their All-Ireland title off to the perfect start last night.

They defeated Waterford in the 1st round of the Munster Championship by 6 points in Walsh Park.

The Premier were 2nd best for much of the first half and found themselves 0-9 to 0-5 down at one stage, but they went on to score 1-5 without reply when man of the match Josh Keane scored a goal from the penalty spot after 29 minutes.

However a Michael Kearney goal for the Deise on the stroke of half-time meant Tipp had just a one point lead at the break, 1-10 to 1-09.

The 2nd half proved just as tight as the first until the 45th minute, when Keane scored his second goal of the game to give Tipp a 3 point lead which they held onto for the rest of the game.

Points from Conor Lanigan and Willie Connors helped them pull away in the end to win by 2-18 to 1-15.

Tipperary now have a two month wait before the semi-finals of the Munster Championship against Limerick in Semple Stadium.
