Winning start for Ireland

Ireland women’s rugby head-coach Tom Tierney says there’s plenty of room for improvement from his side after their 19-17 win over Australia at the World Cup last night.

Subs Sophie Spence and Ciara Griffin both crossed for second-half tries as the tournament hosts got off to a winning start at UCD.

Larissa Muldoon also got a try in the first-half with out-half Nora Stapleton kicking four points.

Ireland’s next opponents Japan suffered a 72-14 loss to France in the other Pool C game last night.
