Reports O’Shea lead player revolt.

It's being reported that Ireland defender John O'Shea led a player revolt against former Sunderland boss Paulo Di Canio.

O'Shea and Lee Cattermole went to club Chief Executive Margaret Byrne to inform her that Di Canio had lost the dressing room.

Roberto Di Matteo and Gus Poyet are the early candidates to replace Di Canio who won only 2 out of his 12 league games in charge during his 175 day reign.

Sunderland play their first game tonight since Di Canio's departure.

They host Peterborough in the League Cup.

There are 3 all-Premier League ties, as Aston Villa take on Tottenham, Cardiff go to West Ham, and Fulham face Everton.

Chelsea head to Swindon, while Manchester City against Wigan is a rematch from May's FA Cup final.

Among the other ties, Hull host Huddersfield, Norwich are at Watford, and Southampton welcome Bristol City.
