The Uruguayan striker celebrated his new long term contract at Liverpool in style, by helping guide his side to a 3-1 win over the Welsh side in the day's opening game at Anfield.

Suarez scored twice in the first half, to bring his total for the season so far in the league to 19 in just 12 games.

He also laid on an assist for Raheem Sterling to score.

Cardiff's goal came from Jordan Mutch in the second half.

The win moves Liverpool top of the table, at least until Arsenal play Chelsea on Monday.

During and after that game, Cardiff fans made clear their support for under pressure boss Malky Mackay.

There have been reports that he has been asked to quit the club by owner Vincent Tan.

Fans chanted his name during the game and held “Tan Out” banners.

Meanwhile, Manchester City moved into second place by claiming all 3 points away to Fulham.

City led 2-0 through Yaya Toure and Vincent Kompany, before a Kompany own goal and a Kieran Richardson goal brought Fulham back level.

However Jesus Navas and James Milner scored late on for City to give them a 4-2 win.

Manchester United are back to winning ways in the league at Old Trafford.

They beat West Ham 3-1, thanks to goals from Danny Welbeck, Adnan Januzaj and Ashley Young.

West Ham's goal came from Carlton Cole.

The win moves United up to seventh in the table.

 

Newcastle are up to sixth in the table after a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa were on the scoresheet for Newcastle, with Danny Gabbidon also scoring an own goal.

West Brom and Hull City played out a 1-1 draw- Jake Livermore with Hull's goal, with Matej Vydra equalising for West Brom.

Stoke City beat Aston Villa 2-1 at The Brittania.

Stoke's goals came from Charlie Adam and Peter Crouch, with Libor Kozak getting one back for Villa.

And it finished scoreless between Sunderland and Norwich at the Stadium of Light.

Wes Brown was sent off there late on for Sunderland.
