Earls- who signed a new two year deal this week to stay at Thomond Park- has been ruled out for 6 to 8 weeks after he sustained medial ligament damage to his left knee.
He picked up the injury during Munster's Heineken Cup win over Edinburgh last weekend.
The winger had a scan on Monday before he met with the specialist yesterday in Dublin where the injury was confirmed.
