Following the news on New Year's Eve that Davy Russell was no longer the preferred rider for the Michael O'Leary-owned operation, Cooper had been strongly linked with the role but the appointment was formally confirmed this afternoon.
Despite the recruitment of the 21-year-old, O'Leary says that they still hope to use Russell's services when ever they need him.
