A West Tipperary Community is in shock this morning after the death of a little baby in Dundrum.

The 7-month-old baby girl was pronounced death at UHL yesterday evening after being found in a car at lunchtime.

The little girl was found in an unresponsive state in the car at around 1.30pm near the O’Dwyer Steel plant in Dundrum.

It’s understood she had been in the car for a number of hours after her father had forgotten to drop her off to a chreche on his way to work.

Yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far Ireland with Tipperary temperature topping 22 degrees Celsius – however it would have been much hotter in the car.

The baby was treated by emergency services at the scene before being airlifted from the Kickhams GAA pitch to University Hospital Limerick.

But Gardai confirmed just after 5pm that the child had passed away.

Gardaí say they are investigating and a post mortem is due to be carried out today at UHL but it’s understood they are treating the death as a very tragic accident.
