An extra allocation to both Tipperary North and South for housing grants to the elderly has been welcomed by Minister of State Alan Kelly.
The grant scheme allows essential works to be carried out to adapt houses for the elderly and those with serious illnesses so that they can continue living independently in their homes.
The North Tipperary Labour representative had been disappointed with the initial allocations for these grants.
However following discussions with Housing Minister Jan O'Sullivan an extra €230,000 has now been found to provide for these grants.
North Tipp County Council now has a total allocation of €447,000 while South Tipp has €993,000.
