Warnings of rail ‘winter of discontent’

Unions at Irish Rail are warning of a winter of discontent if agreement cannot be reached over a pay claim.

Talks get underway today at the Workplace Relations Commission, after being returned there by the Labour Court earlier in the summer.

The company says it’s carrying major debts and can’t afford an increase but the NBRU’s Dermot O’Leary says they’re simply asking management to pass on pay hikes in line with others in the transport sector:
