Union representing Elvery staff seek meeting with management

Unions are seeking an urgent meeting with management at Elvery’s Sports in a bid to safeguard jobs at stores in Tipperary and across the country.

Elvery’s has three stores in the county – in Nenagh, Thurles and Clonmel

700 jobs are under threat following the appointment of an Examiner to the firm last month – they are currently deciding which bidder will take ownership of the company in the future.

One of those interested is the billionaire owner of Newcastle United, Mike Ashley.

However, management at Elvery’s Sports claim their bid is in the best interests of the staff.

Mandate's Assistant General Secretary, Gerry Light says they have focused on the management bid because it’s the only one on the table.
