Uncle of Tipp Hurling stars killed in Oz hit&run

The father of four who worked as a athletics coach emigrated to Australia more than 50 years ago- the year Ronnie Delaney won the Olympics –  but often returned to his native Mullinahone in South Tipperary.

The 82 year old was a PE teacher and was described by family members as a good runner and hurler.

According to reports today that over the weekend he went to a party for an athletic and its believed he was struck as he was looking for directions to the house.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said a passer-by found his body on Sunday.

Expressing deep sadness at Mr Kelly' tragic death, his brother James – who's the father of hurling stars Eoin and Paul told The Irish Independent that the 82 year old was “over the moon with his sons hurling” and used to come home to watch them play in All-Ireland finals.
