Troops depart Kickham Barracks

350 years of a military presence in Clonmel will come to an end later today.

The 12th Infantry Battalion will leave Kickham Barracks for the last time as troops are deployed to other barracks in Limerick and Kilkenny.

However before their departure the Battalion will march through the streets of Clonmel one last time today.

They will leave Kickham Barracks at 1pm and proceed from the Davis Road to the Quays as far as Joyce's Lane to Irishtown and through the West Gate to O'Connell Street and the Main Guard before turning left to Gladstone Street.

The route then goes along Market Street and Emmet Street before passing a reviewing stand at the Town Hall on Parnell Street and back to the Barracks on Dillon Street.

A flag lowering ceremony will then take place in Kickham Barracks to mark the departure of the 12th Infantry Battalion from Clonmel.
