M24 motorway plan is most efficient way to link southern cities

The chances of Tipperary getting an M24 motorway have taken a step forward.

Tipperary County Council’s done a study showing that upgrading the N24 between Limerick and Cahir is the best way of improving the roads infrastructure in Munster.

A motorway to Cahir would cut 15 minutes off the journey time from Limerick to Cork – via the M8 – and would be €300m cheaper than putting a direct motorway between the two main cities in the province.

That’s equivalent to the cost of the new National Maternity Hospital.

It’s been submitted to the National Planning Framework and a review of the Capital Investment programme and Director of Services Marcus O’Connor says he thinks the plan sells itself.
