The Garda Representative Association has shot down plans being considered by the Road Safety Authority to link fines to the driver’s salary.

The RSA says it’s considering a plan where a person earning 50 thousand euro would be fined as much as a thousand euro for speeding.

Details of the plan which would see the fines based on 50 percent of a person’s weekly salary rising to 150 percent of their weekly salary depending on their income.

However the GRA says it’s not the way to improve road safety.
