Tipperary T.D reprimanded for Dail comments.

Deputy Mattie McGrath has been censured by his Dail colleagues for comments he made about a former Mayor of Clonmel.

The South Tipperary Independent T.D last year criticised former Mayor Michael O'Brien, a survivor of industrial school sex abuse, for holding a function for the Rosminian Order which had abused him.

Michael O'Brien wrote to the Ceann Comhairle asking for the remarks to be withdrawn.

He also supplied proof that he had never hosted a civic reception for the order in general but had at the request of other Councillors hosted a mayoral reception for one member of the Rosminian's.

The censure by the Dail's Committee on Procedures and Privileges will not result in any loss of salary or other penalty for Deputy McGrath.
