A Tipperary Fine Gael T.D. is urging rural householders to register their septic tanks before February 1st 2013.
Noel Coonan has welcomed the newly announced grant scheme for works that may prove necessary after inspections.
Environment Minister Phil Hogan made it clear yesterday that householders will be notified in advance of any such inspections by their local councils.
However, the new grants of up to €4,000 will only be made to people who have registered their tanks before February next.
Latest figures indicate that 42% of tanks have yet to be registered.
