Tipperary native to go on trial for indecent assault

A Tipperary born hospital consultant is to go on trial accused of indecently assaulting 16 male patients over three decades at a hospital and a private clinic in County Louth.

80 year old Michael Shine, originally from Ardfinnan, pleaded not guilty to the charges which allegedly occurred from the 1960s until the mid-1980s, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and at a clinic in the town.

The former consultant was remanded on bail and ordered to appear again in October when he is to be served with a book of evidence and returned for trial.
