Tipperary Cllr. calls for ban on prawn bait fishing

 

A Carrick-on-suir Cllr. is calling for an immediate ban on prawn-bait  fishing on the river suir.

Councillor Bobby Fitzgerald said  the use of this type of bait for fishing is commercial angling under another name
.
Atlantic salmon are presently on a red list of endangered species  and need to be protected according to the Cllr. .

He is calling on  South Tipp County Council to write to the the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Marine, Simon Coveney , to prohibit prawn bait fishing on the river Suir.
