A Tipperary TD claims the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine is ignoring the facts facing the impending fodder shortage.

Deputy Jackie Cahill welcomed the recent actions taken by Minister Creed in addressing the crisis but feels the Minister is neglecting the bigger picture.

The Fianna Fail TD is urging the Government to immediately open the 25 million euro low cost Brexit loan scheme.

This is to ensure farmers get much needed credit to lighten the load for those experiencing difficulty due to the exceptionally dry summer.

Deputy Cahill also encouraged the Minister to direct Bord Bia to redouble its efforts to open new markets for dairy cross stock, saying that up to 250,000 cattle needed to be exported.

The Deputy emphasised the neccessity of urgently sourcing fodder from abroad to compensate for losses through the summer.
